Another pedophile police officer busted. In a small town in Pennsylvania, a police officer is under arrest for propositioning sex from a minor. In a satisfying twist, the 14-year-old girl he thought he was chatting with was actually an undercover officer.
In a not so satisfying twist, the offending officer wasn’t just an ordinary run-of-the-mill deputy; he was Chief of Police in Leechburg, PA. Michael William Diebold tried to meet with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl after having extensive talks with her online. Diebold wrote in a message, according to the criminal complaint:
“… Everyone has to have a first time. … You will just have to get me naked tomorrow.”
On Friday, Diebold planned to meet with the “8th grader” who was actually a special agent for the state attorney general’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations. When he showed up for the meet, however, instead of getting naked, he got arrested.
He now faces multiple charges, including unlawful contact with a minor related to sexual offenses.
Sadly, on the Leechburg Police Department’s website, Diebold is still listed as Chief of Police in charge of several other full-time officers as of the writing of this piece.
Diebold lost his arm in a fireworks accident last year. That incident catapulted his celebrity on the local level, and he was somewhat of a local hero. One of the local television stations even aired his wedding to the woman who is now living a nightmare.
Within a year of the nuptials, he was already searching for love online. His handle was KUTECOP4YOU.
One of the online ads Diebold placed less than a year into the marriage and said:
“I am a dom male that is also employed as a full time police officer. I hope that does not scare you off.”
TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT SHE WAS 14
This bust was no accident, Diebold knew exactly what he was doing. Daniel Block, the special agent posing as the young girl, repeatedly told him that “she” was 14. Diebold continued to advance unabated.
According to the affidavit, online communication with the undercover officer included lines such as:
“…What are you wearing right now, proof that you are serious would be a bra and panty pic right now.”
After his arrest, Diebold admitted outright that it was him who sent the messages and he knew he was in trouble. The affidavit states that:
“Diebold admitted he knew that sexual contact with the 14-year-old child was wrong and illegal and that his life was totally over.”
Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Josh Shapiro said that his office doesn’t care one whit who it was that any offender would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Shapiro said in a statement:
“This case is particularly heinous because the perpetrator is a public official, sworn to serve and protect the community. Thanks to the hard work of the agents and prosecutors in our Child Predator Section, one more predator is off our streets.”
His wife spoke with a local station KDKA Sunday. Danielle Reinke Diebold told reporters that she is “broken, devastated, humiliated and completely blindsided.” She told reporters that:
“This is not who we knew. We knew a loving, caring father and husband and we are grieving the loss of that man. I will never find the right words to say but I want to say I am truly so sorry to everyone out there including any minor that may have been involved, our community, family and friends.”
It can be challenging to maintain any level of respect for an organization that continues to be in the news for things like this. One thing is certain, at least this time it wasn’t actually a teenage girl. At least, in this case, a young girl’s life didn’t have a tragic interlude at the hands of a predator.
It’s just horrifying that he really truly hoped that it was.
