Say what you will about Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), but he refuses to give up on a simple truth: Americans have a right to affordable health care, although the wealthy, mostly Republican politicians, insurance companies, corporations, and the healthcare industry would rather milk us for every penny and prevent some from finding care at all.
Sanders just revealed what he says may be a first in American history: A national town hall meeting about “Medicare for All” televised on Tuesday, January 23 at 7 p.m., ET.
“The American people want to know what we’re going to do to fix a dysfunctional health care system which costs us twice as much per person as any other country.”
The Republicans have shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that their years of fighting against Obamacare were about serving the people they obstinately view as their real employers, and it’s not the American people. They never had a plan other than throwing millions off health care, and they certainly don’t view it as a right.
That would be, *gasp* socialism, and of course, that’s what they will continue to say about Sander’s idea of Medicare for all.
“America just doesn’t have the money,” they will claim, as they bloat the American military budget to $700 billion, approve a tax overhaul that turns America into more of an Oligarchy, and refuse to renew health insurance for vulnerable children through CHIP. That’s a “national disgrace.”
Trump also reportedly has a 10-step plan to dismantle Obamacare, including restricting enrollment periods, rolling back Essential Health Benefits, and giving insurance companies “more options on how to structure pricing for certain health benefits.”
The time for Americans to demand affordable health care is just beginning.
Although Americans who want affordable health care face an administration intent on sabotaging it at every turn, Sanders remains committed to the idea that the American people should never cease to demand what we deserve.
He’s also bringing a new idea to the table with his televised town meeting, which could catch on and help We the People become more engaged and active in the political process.
It’s time for Americans to wake up and remind Washington that they work for us and will either do it or GTFO.
