FISA Act Passes After Trump Attacks, Then Flip-Flops On Surveillance Bill

President Donald Trump threw a tantrum over the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) after watching Fox & Friends. It doesn’t matter though because it passed anyway.

But, while the bill passed “handily” according to CNN, Republican leaders had to scramble to fix the mess Trump made after the tantrum which amounted to a total flip-flop on his position.

Despite the White House throwing support to renewing FISA, Trump contradicted his own administration after Fox News analyst Andrew Napolitano claimed that Section 702 of FISA was used by the Obama Administration to catch Michael Flynn in a lie early last year, even though no one has been able to prove that former President Barack Obama did any such thing.

First, Trump claimed that the Fusion GPS dossier of him has been “disproven” and claimed that Democrats “paid for it.” Then he accused the FBI of using an “Intel tool” to influence the election and accused Hillary Clinton of paying the Russians.

Trump then tried to tie FISA to the dossier and accused the Obama administration of abusing the Trump campaign.

Republicans in Congress are currently trying to amend the FISA Act by adding privacy restrictions that would protect any American who wanted to have a chat with foreign nationals or terrorists. You know, such as Trump or one of his minions discussing election meddling with the Russians.

Just so we’re clear, Trump is attacking a law that gives federal law enforcement the ability to better pursue and catch terrorists.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that such an amendment:

“Would re-establish the walls between intelligence and law enforcement that our country knocked down following the attacks of 9/11 in order to increase information sharing and improve our national security.”

So, by attacking FISA, Trump is literally attacking national security and putting the lives of Americans at risk just because the law was used to catch his corrupt lieutenants working with the Russians.

It wasn’t long before Trump backtracked and totally supported the law as long as it only applies to foreigners in foreign countries. You know, because none of our own citizens can possibly want to work against us with foreign nationals.

Donald Trump is so paranoid and desperate that he’s actually trying to change our national security laws to make it easier for him and his team to collude with Russia.

This is dangerous and we should not allow it to happen.
